This is How They Lie in Politics written by Playmaker on 11/20/2009 I haven't paid attention to the feud between Murdock and Obama over Fox News much (except here). But Media Matters, a media watchdog, has exposed Fox many, many times. Most recently Media Matters has put together a year's worth of Fox News gaffs and presented them in one concise article. This makes great reading for all, and if you aren't pissed at Fox when you start reading, you will be by the time you are finished. What is clear, is that they have established a pattern of manipulating the facts and then apologizing later. For instance, Fox News corespondent Major Garret made up a story about Obama, claiming that he had watched a biography of himself rather than the election returns. A preposterous notions, and Garret apologized. Trouble is that this story was picked up by other media outlets and presented as truth, and no matter how much Garret and Fox were remorseful the story still gave the tea-bagging birthers something to cream over. More importantly, Fox has begun to create a pattern of the lie/apology technique. There is no corroborating sourcing needed for this technique. They only need to put out there and then say sorry the next day. The damage is done, and the lie lives. This is a conscious effort to disembowel Obama's presidency. And is another example of how angry and dishonest the right wing is. |
