    Rush Limbaugh for President
    in Politics

Rush Limbaugh is in the news again. This self-proclaimed 'last man standing' in the Republican party, talk radio personality and former drug addict has caught the attention of the press yet again, proving once again my conviction that the Republican Party is the party of anger.

Why shouldn't they be angry, really? The party that is beating the three dead horses of abortion, gay marriage and guns now has a de facto leader whose day job is an entertainer.

His divisive speech is now being taken so seriously that Yael T. Abouhalkah of the Kansas City Star is saying that President Obama should go ahead with a radio debate with Limbaugh as the entertainer has suggested. The former junkie Limbaugh would like nothing better -- the ratings would be stellar. After all, folks, that’s what this is about.

What the media, including my precious National Public Radio is not getting is that this guy Limbaugh is an entertainer first. He isn't trying to set the national debate or drive the GOP politics. He wants to increase his market share. If he wanted to be in the driver's seat of the 'Grumpy Old Party' he would have done it like Al Franken -- the Bizarro Rush -- and would have quit his radio show, raised money, and run for political office. Alternatively, if he didn't want to run for office, he could set up a foundation and worked outside the political system, like Jimmy Carter is doing.

But he really doesn't want to change anything, in fact, the more things stay the same, the more Rush likes it. If government actually went his way, with the ultra-conservatives in power, he would dig up things for which to blame to Democrats. For instance, he spent most of the Bush era blaming Clinton for everything from the war in Iraq to the economic downturn. But you see, this is the way that talk radio works. Limbaugh must have an incendiary topic in order to keep his listeners. He's not trying to change anything -- he's not trying to move the country forward -- he's not even trying to spur honest debate. What he is trying to do is drive a wedge that will get people talking about his show. When people talk about his show, people will listen to his talk show. And the more people who listen, the more he can charge for advertising and speaking engagements.

There is nothing new here. Limbaugh is a hypocritical ass whose agenda has nothing to do with the betterment of our country or our people, and this says mountains about the Republican Party who still feels that Limbaugh's listeners are their base. Limbaugh may very well be the voice of the party, insomuch as he is saying things that GOP leaders in Congress want to say, but he is no more a politician than I am. He is a self-promoting entertainer. Right now, Limbaugh is laughing all the way to the bank.
