The news outlets are squirming about Sarah Palin, McCain's presumptive running mate. Not only is her pregnant 17-year-old daughter a product of abstinence-only education, but ethics probes against her and other Alaskan politicians are moving forward. Her selection as GOP veep candidate has not stopped them, as I am sure she hoped.
What is coming through loud and clear is the corruption, at seemingly every level of the GOP. It is no secret that the lure of power misuse causes both men and women from either party astray. Every government, regardless of how God-fearing, has had their share of corruption. However, it is the chronic contradictions of the Republican platform that are causing its own people to fall.
Sarah Palin is no exception. An advocate of abstinence-only education and promoter of the pro-life movement, she is seeing the negative results of that policy in her own life. And yet the Grand Old Party is going to cling to those platform line items until the cows come home. Sarah also stands piously at the pulpit, ala former New York Governor Spitzer, and claims to be maverick against abuse of power. She is now caught in a ethics and abuse of power probe.
Consider Bush and his cronies, like Gonzales, who have raped the Constitution at every turn, Palin does not sound like the harbinger of change. On the contrary. She looks like just another of the old guard who are saying "Ten Commandments" and "Bible" out of one side of their face, and playing fast and loose with ethics and abuse of power.
This really boils down to the fact that the GOP is willing to allow any warm body to run as long as they say two things: sanctity of marriage, and pro-life. these are the key words that every candidate for the GOP must utter. Never mind if the person has abused their power. Never mind that this person does not live the ideals they preach. Never mind they are morally bankrupt. For the GOP it only matters that they speak the code. This is how narrow-minded they have become. They are willing to toss aside the very soul of our nation on those two issues alone.
